Today is National Video Game Day, and while gaming is totally recreational for most people, Siemens recognizes that gamers have skills that are highly valuable to evolving industries. What gamers are doing today on their screens for fun can also be done professionally in the engineering and industrial-design space.

Consider this: At Siemens’ Spotlight on Innovation event in Orlando, Siemens USA CEO Barbara Humpton and Hackrod CEO/Co-founder Mouse McCoy introduced the world’s first motorcycle designed, engineered and printed “straight out of a video game,” as McCoy put it. Teams based around the word created the motorcycle in a virtual-reality workspace.

“As we build the workforce of the future, people who are really good at video games are great candidates for engineering,” Humpton noted.

McCoy, a former stuntman and motorcycle racer, said, “Watch what happens when you put a game engine on top of the world’s most powerful digital-industrial portfolio and set the kids loose. It’s an exciting moment.”
