Thursday morning, at North Fulton Community Charities’ (NFCC) Community Breakfast, Siemens was honored as the organization’s 2016 Business Partner of the Year.  In the Atlanta area, Siemens employees rallied together to donate more than 2,700  boxes of cereal to the community this year. Nationally, more than 40,000 boxes of cereal have been donated across the country the past five years.

“Five years ago, I was interested to learn how Siemens could help in the local community. I met with Vonda Malbrough, Director of Development at NFCC, and she explained that the food pantry needed cereal,” explains Seth Chapman, Project Procurement Director for Siemens Process Industries and Drives Division

During the summer, there is a big spike in demand for cereal because families in need don’t receive food assistance from school programs. The food bank regularly receives canned food, but it doesn’t get a lot of cereal, as it’s bigger and bulky. Low income students typically receiving free or reduced meals from school are going hungry when class is out for the summer.

Chapman took this back to Siemens GA400 location and developed the annual cereal drive which expanded nationally and is now part of Siemens Summer of Giving campaign.

“Our partnership with Siemens has been vital to our Food Pantry and families.  Providing a box of cereal is important to our families and especially their children.  We can all remember the joy of opening a box of cereal, pouring the milk, and for some hearing the Snap, Crackle, and Pop sounds that were made.  We are humbled by the work of Siemens employees since they give their time, talent, and resources,” says Malbrough.

Siemens has approximately 2,500 employees in the Atlanta metropolitan area supporting a variety of Siemens businesses including Energy Management, Digital Factory, Process Industries & Drives, Healthineers, Building Technologies and Power & Gas.
