David Pacitti, President of Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. and Head of Siemens Healthineers North America Regional Organization

As we celebrate the women in our lives today—our mothers, grandmothers, wives, daughters, granddaughters—our thoughts turn to how we keep these impactful and treasured people in our lives healthy and safe. At Siemens, we talk a lot about the clinical solutions we innovate to enable healthcare providers to deliver high quality, efficient care, but I never lose sight of the fact that there are real people benefitting from our technology.

From the first pregnancy test, Siemens is present in the lives of people and mothers around the world. We help monitor a baby’s health through prenatal ultrasound; we help physicians with the potential for earlier breast cancer detection with screening protocols using mammography and follow-up ultrasound; we test for changes in bone density and signs of osteoporosis with vitamin D assays as women age. Our laboratory instruments run the blood panel ordered by doctors for an annual exam.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t comment on the technologies that support diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease – which, unfortunately, is on the rise.  According to the American Heart Association, every minute in the United States, someone's wife, mother, daughter or sister dies from heart disease, stroke or another form of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which presents differently in women than in men. More than one in three women is living with CVD, including nearly half of all African-American women and 34 percent of Caucasian women. These are startling statistics – yet with educated consumers and access to medical care, CVD can be diagnosed early and successfully treated.

It’s gratifying to know that innovative technologies like ours help doctors diagnose and treat, fast, accurately, and with greatest patient comfort, to ensure that our loved ones stay healthy at every stage in their lives.

Almost a year ago, my wonderful daughter gave birth to a beautiful baby. It is one thing to become a parent and watch your children grow, but it is quite another to watch them become incredible parents themselves. I’m filled with pride as I watch my daughter care for my grandson, and it further instills in me a sense of gratification to contribute toward helping women like her lead the healthiest and most fulfilling lives possible, so that she can continue to nurture and bring joy to those around her.

On behalf of all of us at Siemens, thank you to all mothers. We wish all of you health, happiness, and a very happy Mother’s Day.
